Quick Takes on New York’s Theatre Scene

It was six months into my first job out of college. Work was flying us out to New York City for a two-week training programme, and I was as excited as I could possibly be. This would be my second time in New York City. In the weeks leading up to the trip, I’d basically begged my mother to foot the very expensive bill that came with getting fourth-row, centre-orchestra seats for The Lion King on Broadway.
It was a warm mid-summer day in 2019 in Manhattan when I first witnessed the magic of theatre unfold in front of me. Masters of their craft held my heart ransom for every second I was inside that theatre. To say it was life-changing somehow feels diminutive — it was everything!
I think I knew that day (instinctively) that something incredible was about to begin in my life. I was just waiting for the curtain to rise.
Here, I write about all the wonderful plays I have been privileged enough to witness on Broadway — including the one that started it all.
