Quick Takes on New York’s Theatre Scene

It was six months into my first job out of college. Work was flying us out to New York City for a two-week training programme, and I was as excited as I could possibly be. This would be my second time in New York. In the weeks leading up to the trip, I’d basically begged my mother to foot the bill for fourth-row, centre-orchestra seats for The Lion King on Broadway.
It was a warm summer day in Manhattan in 2019 when I first witnessed the magic of theatre unfold in front of me. Masters of their craft held my heart ransom for every second I was inside that theatre. To say it was life-changing somehow feels diminutive.
It was everything.
I think I knew that day, instinctively, that something incredible was about to begin in my life. I was just waiting for the curtain to rise.
Here, I write about all the productions I have been privileged enough to witness on Broadway — including the one that started it all.
