I have known New York for a long time now. The first visit was in 2013 — a rainy week in May on a hop-on bus, and I came away unconvinced. The second was in 2019, and I came away in love.
In the years since, I have returned again and again. I have walked its streets in the summer and in the winter, in the rain and at dawn. I have eaten in its restaurants and slept in its hotels and woken up to its sunshine on the Hudson. I have been shown its corners by people who love it.
And while the city knows me, I am not fully hers yet. But the chapter is still unfolding, and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
